Description
Petitioners
Commons and dwellers of the Isle of Ely
Addressees
Commons of Parliament
Nature of request
The petitioners state that whereas there had previously been great discord between themselves and the commons of the rest of Cambridgeshire concerning the payment of wages and expenses to members of parliament, an agreement had been reached between all sides through the mediation of Philip, late Bishop of Ely and John, late Lord Tiptoft, whereby the inhabitants of the Isle should pay the sum of £200 and be perpetually discharged from contributing towards such wages. This sum had been paid, and therefore they ask the Commons to ask the King to confirm this arrangement, and discharge them from such payments forever.
