Nature of request
The petitioners say that the fixed bridge in Yorkshire called Turnbrigge, over a watercourse called 'le Dyke', is so low that vessels from the high sea and the city of York, Hull and the towns of Doncaster, Fishlake and other towns cannot pass without impediment. They ask that it be ordained that the bridge be broadened by 2½ yards at the expense of the petitioners, or alternatively that a drawbridge be constructed as on London Bridge at the expense of the petitioners, with 4d to be levied for the upkeep of the bridge from each vessel passing with merchandise.

Dated on the guard to 1421-1442, most probably to the parliament of 1422, although this is far from certain. There was a similar petition in the parliament of 1442: see Rot. Parl. V, p.44.
