Nature of request
William ap Gruffydd asks that he, his children and their heirs may purchase for themselves, their heirs and assigns in fee simple and fee tail for life lands, tenements and other possessions in England as well as in English towns within Wales, and that they may be officers and be able to do and enjoy all other things like other English, notwithstanding any statute or ordinance to the contrary, considering that William and his children have been faithful and loyal lieges of the king and his progenitors both in times of rebellion and in all times afterwards, and that the petitioner is married to one of the daughters of William de Stanley, knight, who is entirely English, and that he himself is for the most part entirely descended from the English race.

This petition is tentatively dated on the guard to c.1426, but there appears to be no evidence to corroborate this. The petitioner's son was granted similar rights on 26 November 1439: see CPR 1436-41, p.416; cf. Rot. Parl., V, p.16.
