Nature of request
The duke, a ward of the king, states that Lord Mautravers has asked in parliament that he be able to sit in parliament and council because he pretends that his ancestors had been seised of the castle, honour and lordship of Arundel, and have been earls of Arundel, and have had the estate, honour and dignity as pertaining to the castle, honour and lordship from time out of mind, as is revealed in a bill delivered by him into the parliament at Westminster in 1429. The duke's father fully answered the contents of the petition in that parliament, and those afterwards, as the rightful inheritor of the castle, honour and lordship, so that lord Mautravers should not use the name as is known and proved. The duke requests that nothing be proceeded or put in execution to his disinheritance during his minority, and calls on the king's protection and defence.
