Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/26/1274
Date
[c. 1430]
Description
Petitioners
William Pope, esquire
Name(s)
Pope, William
Addressees
Commons in parliament
Nature of request
Pope states that the king on 7 March 1428 granted to Pope the office of usher of the order of the Garter in the castle of Windsor with a house pertaining to the office in the castle, and also of carrying the staff before the king and his heirs in procession with wages to be taken from the manor of Kempton. Pope requests that the letters patent be cancelled and new ones made for him granting the office for life, notwithstanding that the king has granted him the office of cyrographer in his Bench.
Nature of endorsement
The king is to be advised.
Places mentioned
Wyndesore (Windsor), [Berkshire]
Cold Kennington (Kempton), Middlesex
Note
The petition probably predates SC 8/26/1273, so it must be before 1432. However it is unlikely to be much earlier, so perhaps c.1430 is not an unrealistic date, especially as the original grant was only made in 1428.
