Description
Petitioners
Anne, Countess of Stafford, daughter and heir of Eleanor, one of the daughters and heirs of Humphrey de Bohun, late earl of Hereford, Essex and Northampton, and constable of England
Name(s)
Countess of Stafford, Anne
Addressees
King
Nature of request
The countess states that she is heir to half of the Bohun inheritance, the other heir being Henry V in right of his mother Mary, and that a certain accord was made between them to divide the inheritance at Westminster on 2 May 1421 except fees and advowsons held in gross. It was also agreed for the partition of the fees and advowsons in gross, the king choosing which he wanted of them. The countess requests that she be granted that she may be able to partition the fees and advowsons in Chancery, and that the treasurer and chancellor have the authority to choose those that are best for the king, and the countess have and enjoy the rest.
Nature of endorsement
The partition of the fees and advowsons should be made to the countess as is specified in the petition, the partition being made in Chancery, and calling into the presence of the chancellor and treasurer in Chancery the chamberlain and general receiver of the duchy of Lancaster and others of the council of the king of the duchy that the chancellor and treasurer see fit. The chancellor and treasurer have the full authority of parliament to choose for the king which parts are best to select for the king by the advice of the chamberlain and others. Following this the other parts are to be delivered out of the king's hands to the countess.
