The petitioners state that Robert Thirsk by two letters patent of Henry V was granted a licence to establish a perpetual chantry of three chaplains before the altar of St Anne in the church of Thirsk, and to puchase lands or advowsons to endow it. However the letters patent have not been executed or put to use because Robert Thirsk died before then. The petitioners request that the commons request from the king that he grant to them that they are able to establish the chantry for divine services to be made there according to the ordinances made by them for the estate of the king, and the souls of his father and of Robert Thirsk; also that one of the chaplains become master, and that the chaplains be able to purchase the lands or advowsons in aid of their sustinence and other charges and works of compassion; also the master and chaplains be able to act in all things as other lieges of the king are able to do, the statute of mortmain notwithstanding.
