Reference
SC 8/25/1245
Date
[c. 1431]
Description
Petitioners
Tenants and landholders of Mablethorpe.
Addressees
Commons in parliament.
Nature of request
The tenants state that the town has been utterly destroyed by inundations of the sea. They request that they receive a respite from the payment of taxes granted by parliament for the next ten years as the lands of the town are of no value or profit.
Nature of endorsement
Let the respite be made as it is desired for two years next following.
Places mentioned
Mablethorpe, [Linconshire]
Westminster.
Note
The petition makes reference to a grant of a tax at the parliament held at Westminster on 22 September in the 8th year of Henry VI. The petition obviously post-dates this, so that a date of c. 1431 seems reasonable especially as the heading of the section in Rot. Parl. (IV, p. 384) notes these original petitions to be from the 9th year.
