Description

Nature of request
The earl was granted a licence by a writ of the privy seal by the king to give to the bishop of Bath and Wells, the earl of Stafford and others various lands, manors and lordships in Devon, Berkshire, Cheshire, North Wales and Somerset granting them back entailed on the earl and his wife Anne and the heirs of their bodies with remainders to the heirs of John, late earl of Huntingdon, the petitioner's father, and Elizabeth his wife, and in default of issue to the king. The earl requests that he be granted letters patent of licence under the great seal made according to the tenor and effect of the writ without making a fine in Chancery, considering that the earl was in the wardship of Henry V, and was taken prisoner in the late king's wars, being held for 5 years, and was ransomed for 20,000 marks to the great impoverishment of the earl, and he is still in the wars of the king in France at his great cost.
