Description
Petitioners
Margaret Scharnesfeld (Sarnesfield), widow of Nicholas Sarnesfield, knight.
Name(s)
Scharnesfeld (Sarnesfield), Margaret
Addressees
Commons in parliament.
Nature of request
Scharnesfeld states that Richard II granted to her husband by his letters patent at their marriage the manor and town of Helston of which they were seised. After her husband's death she remained seised and let the manor and borough at farm to Wilcotes and Frankleyn for their lives with right of re-entry if the rent was in arrears. Following Wilcotes' death the rent fell into arrears and Scharnesfeld re-entered ousting Frankleyn. Afterwards Arundel conspired to have a commission held before his own men which found that Frankleyn had died seised of the manor and borough. Scarnesfeld challenged this, but the matter is pending in the Bench during which time Tryake and Penpons have the manor and borough at fee farm to the great mischief of Scharnesfeld. She requests that the prayers of the commons be heard in this parliament and that she be granted her nisi prius, and still she is not able to have it, and she requests from the duke of Gloucester that her nisi prius be accepted without further delay.
