Nature of request
The humble lieges state that they understand that the archbishop has been accused of procuring against the liberties of the court of Rome in England, and of behaving in his cure in a way not fitted to a prelate, because of which the pope has made process against him to the prejudice of the archbishop and the church of Canterbury. The petitioners request that the king give his order to his ambassadors going to Rome, or write to the pope to have the archbishop and his church recommended, and that no credence should be given to any information already given.
