Nature of request
Esmond states that her late husband is due certain sums of money for the making and altering of diverse seals of Henry IV by his personal order made in his chamber as the bishop of Durham, Pelham and others who were present in the chamber well know. But because the petitioner does not have bills called debentures for these sums, and nothing can be found for the debt of Henry IV in the creditors of the Exchequer, the executors of Henry IV would not pay notwithstanding that by the authority of parliament at Westminster 1 Hen. VI it was ordained that the executors ought to pay the debt that is to the great impoverishment of Esmond and her children if she does not have aid. She requests that the lords consider these things done by the order of kings by them in their chamber are not accountable in the Exchequer, and consider Esmond and her children's poverty, and John Esmond's good service to Henry IV and V, and at their discretion grant writs or letters of the Privy seal to the executors commanding them to pay or sufficiently satisfy Esmond of the sums notwithstanding that she has no bills for the sums.

Note
Dated by the heading in Rot. Parl. IV, p.309 where it is noted that the petition comes from 4 Hen. VI dating this to 1 Sept. 1425-31 Aug. 1426. As this is a parliamentary petition it must therefore come from the Leicester parliament of February 1426.
