Reference
SC 8/25/1208
Date
[1426]
Description
Petitioners
Richard Flemynge (Fleming), Bishop of Lincoln.
Name(s)
Flemynge (Fleming), Richard
Addressees
King and the lords spiritual and temporal in parliament.
Places mentioned
Nichole (Lincoln), [Lincolnshire].
Nature of request
Flemynge requests that they consider his poverty which he has long suffered because his temporalities were taken into and remain in the king's hands for certain reasons. It was ordained by advice of the council that the temporalities should be restored to the bishopric, but he is still not in possession of them, and has nothing to live on, and the manors of the bishopric are terribly wasted. He requests that the king ordain, by the authority of parliament, that he have full restitution and livery of the temporalities, and enjoy them as a bishop of the bishopric ought.
Nature of endorsement
[None].
Note
Dated by the heading in Rot. Parl. IV, p.309 where it is noted that the petition comes from 4 Hen. VI dating this to 1 Sept. 1425-31 Aug. 1426. As this is a parliamentary petition it must therefore come from the Leicester parliament of February 1426. It was probable that the petition dates to 1426, on the basis of writs that were sent to various escheators to deliver the temporalities of the bishop back to him on 3 August 1426 (CPR 1422-9::p.351).
