Nature of request
The merchants of the Hanse of Almaine state that, as John Perveys and Ralph Barton, Sheriffs of London, demanded customs and payments from them which were more than they used to pay, and distrained them for these, contrary to their letters patent from the kings of England, confirmed by Henry V, they have sued a bill to the King's council for two years and more, resulting in a process which was still pending when the late king died. Now William Estfeld and Robert Tatershale, Sheriffs of London, are again distraining them. They ask that the justices of both benches might be ordered to examine the record of this plea and to discuss and determine the matter, and that the Sheriffs be asked to cease their distraints in the meantime; or that some other suitable remedy be found for the supplicants in this parliament.

CCR 1422-9::pp.49-50 is dated at Westminster, 23 December 1422, and states that it is 'by petition in parliament'. This petition must have been presented to the parliament of November 1 Henry VI (1422).
