Nature of request
[This document is the response to SC 8/24/1180:]When the supplicants named in the petition have found for the present Sheriffs of London a similar security to that which they found for the former Sheriffs in a similar case, and on this condition: that the merchants will sue against the former Sheriffs before the King's council for their discharge from the customs and payments mentioned in the petition, which they claim are wrongfully demanded of them, and will continue this suit until they are discharged, and will abide by the council's decision, and loyally do what is adjudged by the council, the present Sheriffs, when such a security has been found for them, are to let the merchants be until the matter formerly pending between the merchants and the former Sheriffs before the late King's council, has been determined. And that in the meantime a writ of supersedeas is to be issued for the merchants.

CCR 1422-9::pp.49-50 is dated at Westminster, 23 December 1422, and states that it is 'by petition in parliament'. The petition to which this is the answer must have been presented to the parliament of November 1 Henry VI (1422).
