Nature of request
The Abbots and Priors of England complain of the inconvenience and problems that are caused when the Archbishops and Bishops make them collectors of the tenths granted by the clergy to the king in places that are very distant from where they live. They ask the commons to ask the king that it might be ordained in the present parliament by statute that no Abbot or Prior should in future be made a collector in any diocese, archdeaconry or county other than the one in which they live; and if this does happen, that, if they complain to the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer, the Bishop who did this should answer to the King for the tenth, and a process should be started against him.
