Nature of request
The Mayor, Bailiffs and citizens of Carlisle complain that on 15 March last, Thomas, Lord Dacre and a body of armed men destroyed the gorce which they have had from time immemorial in the River Eden, and has prevented them from using their right of hauling their nets to land by the gorce. They ask the King to compel Lord Dacre, on pain of heavy penalty, to rebuild the gorce, and to let them use it without hindrance. And, if he claims any right in the matter, to pursue it peacefully, according to the laws and customs of England.
