John Barndesley of Chesterton and his son William request compensation for the manor of Shortley, which John held in respect of his wife, and of which they were disseised by Baldwin Frevile, who then enfeoffed Richard II with part of this manor. Richard built a Carthusian monastery there; later he promised compensation, but died before it could be paid.

Note
Rot. Parl. vol. IV, p.29b (no.6), assigns this petition to 1414, but a note on the guard suggests that it may be earlier, with reference to CCR 1402-5 p.39 (dated at Westminster, 26 January 1403). However, this petition seems to be from a later stage in the proceedings: there is now no question of recovery of the manor, but of compensation for the part of it given to the Carthusians.
