Addressees
King's council.
Nature of request
Margery, widow of Ralph de Aderley states that for seven years she sued a writ of cui in vita against Edmund Perpount, concerning lands and tenements in Sneinton, of which she was put in possession, by virtue of an inquisition held on the Monday before the Conception of Our Lady in the second year of the king's reign, and a subsequent judgment in Common Pleas, but that afterwards Edmund sent Aunker de Burton and a great number of other malefactors to occupy the tenements by force; they still hold them, and they have ill-treated the petitioner and threatened her attorney. She requests a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
On the sixth day of May in the third year etc. the above-mentioned Edmund Perpount, knight, summoned in person before the king's council, and there sworn and examined, to tell the truth on the above-mentioned matter, said on oath that he was not in any way guilty of the contents of this petition. Whereupon it was decided that a writ should be sent to the justices of assize in Nottinghamshire to inquire into the aforesaid matter, which concerns the king, and that a copy of the petition should be enclosed in the same writ; and the same justices should do justice in this matter. And Edmund is to swear then that he will not molest the petitioner in her suit at common law, personally or through others on his procurement, and Edmund is to be dismissed from the council.
