Nature of request
Hugh de Byseley, formerly deputy and receiver general of all the lordships, lands and tenements of Thomas, formerly Duke of Norfolk, who is suing a writ of error against Henry Pountfreit, who has claimed from him certain sums of money said to be owed by the duke, complains that the court will not accept his attorneys without his appearing in person, which would be to his defeasance and prejudice. He asks the lords to ask the king that these attorneys might be accepted by authority of parliament, any law to the contrary notwithstanding.
Nature of endorsement
The king, with the advice of the lords spiritual and temporal in parliament, wills that the supplicant might be able to sue the error mentioned in the petition by his attorneys, made or to be made by his letters patent under his seal, before the Chancellor and Treasurer of England for the time being, and other men learned in the law, and to sue to the end as if the supplicant were there in person, as is contained in the petition.And be it remembered that the Chancellor in person received the petitioner's attorneys in this case, namely Robert Beeston and John Wenryssh, as can be seen from a schedule attached to this petition.
