Nature of request
William Bonevylle and Alice his wife state that William, brother of Ralph Carmynow, Alice's former husband, made a recognisance of statute merchant to Ralph and his executors, for 18000 marks, which would be without force if, after Ralph's death, Alice held the manors of Boconnoc and Ashwater without molestation by William or his heirs, as her jointure, and that after Ralph's death John Phelipp, to whom Alice had entrusted the keeping of this document, plotted to deliver it to William, enabling him to expel Alice from the manors. They ask the commons to ask the king to have John Phelipp summoned before the council, to answer to them on this matter, as they can have no other recovery at common law.
