Nature of request
The petitioners complain about the abbot of Lesnes, and other abbots and priors in England, who have sold and granted annuities, pensions and corrodies to various people, and have then purchased protections from the king, preventing those who have been sold these annuities, pensions and corrodies from having process or execution at common law in their actions concerning them. They ask the commons to ask the king and lords to ordain that all such protections be revoked, and not granted in future, or to ordain that abbots and priors should be obliged in future to answer to plaintiffs in such cases according to the law and custom of the realm, notwithstanding such protections.
