Nature of request
John Darcy, knight, asks the commons to ask the king that a long-running dispute between his family and the Order of St John of Jerusalem in England, concerning the manors of Temple Hirst and Temple Newsam, formerly belonging to the Templars and given to his grandfather by Edward III, in the seventh year of his reign, might be determined in parliament, as great wrongs could come about if it was tried by inquest, and so that the evidence which he has shown, for the king's right and his own, might be fully made clear before all the lords of the present parliament.
Nature of endorsement
The king has delivered this petition to the Chancellor of England, so that he, calling to himself in Chancery the Justices, and having heard the parties mentioned in this petition, might examine the matter fully, and have a report on it sent back to the king.
