Nature of request
Robert atte Mulle states that it was found by an inquest at Southwark, before John Wadham and his companions, assigned by the king's letters patent to hear and determine (oyer and terminer) certain matters contained in these letters, in the counties of Surrey and Sussex, that he had treasure trove buried in a house in Guildford, to the value of £600, and it was adjudged before the same justices that the king should have recovery of this sum. He has already paid around 500 marks, and is ruined by this. He asks that the commons in this parliament request the king's grace for him.

Southwark, [Surrey].
People mentioned

Note
Although this petition is edited by Rot. Parl. vol. III p.448a (no. 5) as belonging to 1399, a note on the guard assigns it to 1397, with reference to SC 8/22/1070. It is clear from the petition that it was addressed to Richard II rather than Henry IV.
