Nature of request
The Mayor, Sheriffs, Aldermen and community of London request that a statute made in the twenty-eighth year of Edward III, which provides for the correction of abuses of government in London and other cities and boroughs, be annulled, as contrary to their charters, to the common law, and to the Great Charter.
Nature of endorsement
[On face] The clarification of the first petition from London.[On dorse] The king, with the assent of the lords spiritual and temporal, and of the commons of this present parliament, wishes and grants that the penalties of one thousand and two thousand marks, and of the seizure of the franchise, contained in this petition, should not be defined absolutely, but that the penalty in this case should be at the advice and discretion of the justices to be assigned for this, as is the case for other cities and boroughs within the realm; and that the rest of the statute, and its process, should remain in force.
