Nature of request
Thomas, Archbishop of Canterbury, states that as a result of the erroneous judgment against him in the parliament held at Westminster in the twenty-first year of Richard II, Roger de Walden, clerk, occupied his temporalities, and took the profits, together with other goods and chattels of his; and that several of his tenants have been bound by bills obligatory to pay their rents and profits to him. As this parliament has been repealed and annulled in the present parliament, he requests a remedy for this: that he might be able to have execution of Roger's goods, wherever they are found, and of the issues and profits of his temporalities with their arrears, and of his goods and chattels; and that his tenants might be released from their obligations. He also requests that all benefices given by Roger might be annulled.

This petition is enrolled on the roll of the parliament on the Monday of the feast of St Faith, 1 Henry IV (1399) (Rot. Parl. vol.III, pp.434a-435b) and action on it was taken in November (CPR 1399-1401, p.215). The parliament referred to in the petition (that of 21 Richard II) was held in September 1397.
