Nature of request
The Chancellor and scholars of Cambridge University state that they fear that disputes and controversy could arise from the general nature of the wording of their charter, which grants the Chancellor cognisance of all personal pleas and contracts made within the university or its suburbs, or where a master, scholar, scholar's servant, or common minister of the university is one of the parties, except cases of death or mayhem (mort et maiheym). They request that it be declared in the present parliament that the university's stationers and bookbinders, and others, might be considered to be scholars' servants - as they are in the charter of the Chancellor and scholars of Oxford University.
