Nature of request
Richard de Byron, knight, and Joan his wife ask that an illegal commission which has enabled the Mayor and bailiffs of Nottingham to destroy a gorce in the River Trent, attached to their water-mill at Colwick, be revoked, and that they be given a remedy in the present parliament.
Nature of endorsement
When this petition had been read in parliament, and the commission which it mentions, together with the process following on from this and the supplicants' evidence, carefully examined by the justices, and when they had reported back to parliament, that the commission was improperly made and against the law, and that the supplicants had shown several pieces of evidence of record concerning their right in this matter, it was decided in parliament that the commission, and all the process following it, should be completely repealed and annulled, and that the supplicants should be able to rebuild their gorce, freely and without impediment from the Mayor, bailiffs and community of Nottingham, or from any others, and that a new commission should be given to disinterested persons to enquire into the matter and to report to Chancery, if any interested person wishes to pursue this.
