Addressees
King and council in parliament.
Nature of request
The petitioners, tenants of the Duke of Gloucester, and others their neighbours in Essex, request a new writ of supersedeas to the sheriff of Essex, to renew one which expires at the time of this parliament, to stay proceedings in all writs of the statute of the staple, the statute merchant, debt, account, trespass or detinue sued against them by Thomas Hardyng, as he has already recovered by such writs much greater sums than the damages done to him during the uprising (of 1381).
Nature of endorsement
Because various inquisitions have found that Thomas Hardying has received from various people much more than his damages during the uprising amount to, and for various other reasons stated in parliament, the king of his special grace, with the advice and assent of the lords in parliament, has granted the supplicants writs of supersedeas until the next parliament in all cases of the statute of the staple, the statute merchant, debt, detinue, trespass or account, sued or to be sued by Thomas Hardyng against them for anything done to him at the time of the uprising. He also grants that this petition is to be sent to Chancery, and the Chancellor is to summon the parties before him, and when he has examined the matter contained in this petition, and the inquisitions, and when he has heard the arguments of the parties, he is to do by authority of parliament what reason and good faith demand.

People mentioned
[Thomas of Woodstock], Duke of Gloucester
Thomas Hardyng (Harding).
Note
CCR 1392-6 p.257 is dated at Westminster, 23 February 1394. This might be the supersedeas granted in response to this petition, or it might be the one that this petition wishes to renew, in which case this petition would have been presented to the parliament of January 1395.
