Nature of request
Adam Changeour states that around sixteen years ago, Constance, wife of Robert Knolles, gave the petitioner some money to trade with, partly by her own hand, partly by that of John Lakyngheth, under an agreement that she would bear half of all gains and losses. After initially making a profit, it was eventually lost, but she demanded the whole of her money back, threatening Adam until he enfeoffed her and her husband with all his possessions in London and Norfolk, on their promise that they would take only what was owed them. They have received the profits from this property for thirteen years and more, and have now had much more than was due to them. He requests that the king summon Robert and help Adam to have justice and to recover his possessions.
Nature of endorsement
A writ containing the tenor of this petition is to be sent to Robert Knolles, knight, that he is to appear before the king in this present parliament at Westminster, on the Friday after Candelmas next, to answer concerning the matters contained in this petition; or, if he cannot come then, he is to send his attorney, with sufficient power under his seal to answer concerning these matters.
