Description
Petitioners
William Heron.
Name(s)
Heron, William
Addressees
King and lords of parliament.
Nature of request
William Heron states that in the last two years the Scots have raided his lands during time of truce, killing and taking people and livestock, and doing great damage; so his people raided them, and took a pen [for animals]. The Earl of Northumberland made William pay the Scots for this, and promised him restitution for the damages he had suffered: but he has never done anything about this. The Earl has also had him arrested and imprisoned for a long time in Newcastle upon Tyne; and several of the Earl's men came with force and arms to William's castle of Ford, attacked it, wounded the people there, and took booty, which they still have. He requests justice and a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
Certain lords have been appointed to negotiate between the parties and bring them to an agreement.

Note
No secure dating for this petition other than its inclusion among parliamentary petitions ascribed to 1387-1388 in Rot. Parl., vol. III, pp.255b-256a. William Heron represented Northumberland in parliament in October 1382 (CCR 1381-5 p. 227) and in October 1385 (CCR 1385-9 p.118): might he be taking advantage of one of these occasions?
