- The people of Sussex state that Bramber castle, which is beside the sea, and in the king's hand, is completely unguarded, making it vulnerable to a surprise attack by the enemy, which would lead to the devastation of the whole of the surrounding country. They request that the king and his council might ordain a sufficient protection for this castle.

- Dated in a note on the dorse of the petition to '? c. 1377 (recent French attacks)'.Rot. Parl. vol. III p.255a-b (no. 12) edits this petition as being from 11 Richard II (1387-1388), but several of these petitions seem not to be from these years.
