John Plays, kinsman and heir of Aveline, who was the wife of Edmund, brother of King Edward I, states that Aveline was seised in her demesne as in fee of the manors of Langley and Wraysbury, which are held of the king in chief by knight service, and died seised of them without an heir of her body, at which time they were seized into King Edward's hands, as the heir, Ralph son of Richard de Plays, was under age. The right has descended, through a long line of descent set out in the petition, to John Plays, who requests that the king order justice and reason to be done as law and justice demand, or that he order his justices to examine the record and process, and further inform himself, in order to do what pleases him, on the advice of his council.

Rot. Parl. vol. III, pp. 175b-176a assigns this petition to 7 Richard II (22 June 1383- 21 June 1384), but a note on the guard of this petition and of SC 8/20/973 says 'c. 1380'.
