Description
Petitioners
William Welles, esquire.
Name(s)
Welles, William
Addressees
King and parliament.
Nature of request
William Welles, esquire, states that the king granted him the wardenship of the hospital of St. Mary of Bethlehem outside Bishopsgate in London, but that certain people of the city of London say that this gift belongs to them, and are preventing him from being received to it. He states that the king and his ancestors have always presented to the hospital, and have always presented knights, like James Daudeley, so that it should be governed by chivalry, and that John Beuchamp and John Darcy also presented men to the hospital, by right of Edward III. He asks that the right to present to the hospital be tried and determined between the king and the said people in the present parliament, and that they show the bulls which they have from the time of Godfrey de Bulloyn, attesting to the manner of the foundation of the Order of that house, to make clear the king's right, and to show if any right belongs to them.
Nature of endorsement
This bill is to be sent into Chancery, and when the parties and others who are to be called are called there, justice is to be done to each party.
