Nature of request
The mayor and burgesses of King's Lynn state that they have been charged by the king's progenitors with guarding their town at their own peril, and request that they may be arrayed by the mayor and other good people of the town, as they have been, and not harassed by any foreign arrayer, considering the harm that could come to the town by enemies if the people are troubled elsewhere, and especially from the enemies currently in those parts.

Rot. Parl. vol. III, p.70b (no. 6) assigns this petition to the parliament held at Westminster at the quinzaine of Easter 2 Richard II (1379), but not all the petitions in this section are from that parliament. A note on the guard dates it to '? 1381-2'. The petition can be tentatively dated to the first years of Richard II's reign.
