Nature of request
Reginald de Grey of Ruthin states that King Edward, the great-great-grandfather of the present king, granted to Reginald de Grey, the petitioner's great-grandfather, and his heirs, the castle of Ruthin, the cantref of Dyffryn Clwyd and the lands which belonged to Wenthlian de Lacy in the same cantref and in the cantref of Englefield, to hold of the king by a whole service; and that he and his ancestors have held them until recently, in an inquisition before John de la Pole, Justiciar of Chester, in the county of Flint, it was presented maliciously by certain Welshmen that Reginald de Grey, to whom these lands were given, intruded into certain lands and tenements in the cantrefs of Dyffryn Clwyd and Englefield, wrongly and by colour of his office while he was Justiciar of Chester.
