Nature of request
John Blaunchard states that William Peverel and Edith his wife were seised of certain lands and tenements in Barford St Martin, together with the bailiwick of keeping the king's forest of Grovely, as pertaining to these lands and tenements, paying 10 s. per annum, of which the king is seised through John; and that all the terre-tenants of these lands and tenements were seised of this bailiwick in their demesne as in fee and right from time immemorial, until Thomas de Breouse, Justice of the Forest, took the bailiwick into the king's hand in the twenty-ninth year of the reign of the grandfather of the present king, for certain trespasses committed by Edith, who had estate only for term of life, after the death of her husband, for which she made fine. Two foresters were ordained there by the king, at his wages and expense. The bailiwick is still in the king's hand. Therefore John, who has William's estate in the lands and tenements, and pays the 10 s., requests restitution of the bailiwick.[This is a copy of the petition produced in support of John's Blaunchard's later petition (SC 8/19/908)].
Nature of endorsement
[On face] At our present lord king's parliament at Westminster in the first year of his reign.[On dorse] This bill is to be sent to Chancery, and there, when John Knyvet and others whom it seems to the Chancellor are to be called, have been called, justice is to be done to each party.
