Description
Petitioners
John Blaunchard.
Name(s)
Blaunchard, John
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
John Blaunchard states that he sued by petition to the last parliament - a copy of which petition is sewn to this one - to have a bailiwick in the Forest of Grovely, with the profits appertaining to it, of which William Peverel and Edith his wife were seised, for themselves and William's heirs, as pertaining to a messuage and half a virgate of land in Barford St Martin, which he holds. This petition was endorsed that the Chancellor, calling John Knyvet and other people who seemed necessary to him, was to do justice. The Chancellor did this, and by their advice ordered an inquisition into the contents of the petition, together with the record and process before the justices of the Forest eyre, containing the reason why the bailiwick was seized into the king's hand. This inquisition found the petition true in all points, and a writ of scire facias was issued to Alan Buxhull, keeper of that forest, to summon him to Chancery at the octave of Trinity last to give any reason he had for the king or himself to bar John from his right. He stated that he held the keepership of the Forest, of which the bailiwick was part, for term of life of the lease of King Edward, grandfather of the present king, and confirmation of the present king, and requested aid of the king, which was granted. John was told to sue to the king to have letters of the Privy Seal to the Chancellor to continue in the plea - he has sued for a long time, but has not been able to have these letters. He requests the king to order the Clerk of the Privy Seal to issue a command of procedendo.
Nature of endorsement
He is to have a letter of the Privy Seal of procedendo, provided that they do not proceed to give judgment without consulting the king.
