Reference
SC 8/19/907
Date
[1378-1382]
Description
Petitioners
John Blaunchard.
Name(s)
Blaunchard, John
Addressees
King and council.
Places mentioned
Barford St Martin, Wiltshire
Forest of Grovely, [Wiltshire].
Brauncheborn (Branch) hundred, Wiltshire Dolvesfeld (Dole) hundred, Wiltshire. .
Nature of request
John Blaunchard states that he holds a messuage with a common oven and half a virgate of land in Barford St Martin; and that to support this oven he is allowed sufficient fuel in the forest of Grovely, without view, livery or disturbance of the foresters, verderers or other ministers of the king. For salvation of the forest, John wishes to release this fuel for the common oven, in exchange with the king and his heirs - if it please him and his council, on the advice of parliament - for the hundreds of Branch and Dole at fee-farm, with tourns, aids, view of frankpledge and all other rents and profits, paying annually what the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer can certify that the sheriffs used to pay before they had the whole county at farm for a certain sum, and notwithstanding any statute made to the contrary.
Nature of endorsement
[None].
Note
A note on the guard says '1378-9 or 1381-2 cf. seq.' It is not known on what basis the author of this note feels able to be so specific, but by comparison with SC 8/19/908 and SC 8/19/909, it would seem quite likely that it dates from after 1380, when the petitioner has recovered the rights to his lands.
