Date

Description
Petitioners
Knights representing Kent in the present parliament.
Addressees
King and lords of parliament.
Nature of request
The knights representing Kent in the present parliament request that it might be ordained that their wages be paid by the commons of the county, as happens elsewhere, although their wages have previously been levied from knights' fees in the county, as it is planned to hold more parliaments, and this will be too much of a burden on the holders of such fees.
Nature of endorsement
It is to be done as has been the case previously.
Places mentioned
Kent.
Note
This is dated to 1378-9 by the details given in Rot. Parl., vol II, p.175, where it is noted as 'petitions in parliament' from 2 Richard II, taken from the originals. Specifically, the petitions on pp.50-54 are assigned to the parliament held at Gloucester on the Wednesday after the feast of St Luke, 2 Richard II (1378), while those on pp.69-70 are ascribed to the parliament held at Westminster at the quinzaine of Easter (1379).
