Note
Rot. Parl. vol. III p.50a-b (no. 2) assigns this petition to 2 Richard II (22 June 1378 - 21 June 1379), and more specifically, to the parliament held at Gloucester, on the Wednesday following the feast of St Luke, 2 Richard II (1378). However, as Hawley was dead by that time (see Nigel Saul, Richard II (New Haven, 1997), pp.36-38), this petition must have been presented to the parliament of October 1377.According to Saul (p.36), this was the month in which the two men were committed to the Tower.CCR 1377-81 p.326 is dated at Westminster, 17 September 1379, and pp.482-3 is dated at Westminster, 17 December 1380. CPR 1377-81 p.546 is dated at Westminster, 10 October 1380.
