Description
Petitioners
Alice de Nevill (Neville).
Name(s)
de Nevill (Neville), Alice
Addressees
King and council in parliament.
Nature of request
Alice de Nevill states that John Brewes and other malefactors broke into her lodging in London and forcibly abducted Margery, daughter of John de Nerford her son, whom they found there, and took her to the Bishop of Norwich's lodging, where Robert Howard received and hid her, with the intention of resisting an appeal pending in the papal court, in Margery's suit to annul her contract of marriage with John Brewes. Robert Howard was sent to the Tower of London, to remain there until Margery was brought before the council. However, he was later released by decision of the Council, provided that he made every effort to bring Margery before the Council in London at the quinzaine of Michaelmas last, or to the countess of Bedford if the Council should be elsewhere, or to surrender himself to the Tower at that date, on pain of paying £1000 to the king. He pledged himself to do this, but has not done so; she requests that he be again sent to the Tower, and the £1000 paid to the king.
Nature of endorsement
The answer to this appears in the roll of this parliament.
