Keeper of the Rolls of Chancery & Warden of the House of Converts in London
Nature of request
William de Burstall states that he had repaired the chapel and buildings of the House of Converts at his own cost, and that the late king, for maintenance of the house, granted by his letters patent that after William's death the Keeper of the Rolls would always be Warden of the house while in office. He requests confirmation of this grant.

London.
People mentioned
[Edward III], King of England.
Note
Rot. Parl. vol. III p.31a-b (no. 5) assigns this petition to 1 Richard II (22 June 1377 - 21 June 1378), but their dating is not always very accurate. The year 'II R 2' is written on the dorse - but probably not in a contemporary hand.CPR 1381-5 p.41, dated 8 September 1381, mentions the appointment of John de Waltham as keeper and speaks of 'William de Burstall, late keeper': so the petition must predate this.Dated to 1377 in 'The Jews in England', a PRO Exhibition Catalogue from 1957 (p.10), now in the National Archives Library.
