Nature of request
The Constable and Marshal of England state that they are established to do right and execution of justice in the king's name in all the cases of which they have the cognisance throughout the realm, but that the king's officers, their deputies, are hindered and prevented from doing this by the Mayor and sheriffs of London, on the grounds that they have a franchise, in prejudice of the king's majesty and dishonour of his officers. They request that the Mayor, sheriffs and other officers of London be summoned before the council to answer on this matter, and that a remedy be swiftly ordained.
