Description
Petitioners
Joan de Bohun, Countess of Hereford.
Name(s)
de Bohun, Countess of Hereford, Joan
Addressees
King and lords of parliament.
Nature of request
Joan, Countess of Hereford, states that she holds the manor of Kimbolton in dower, of the inheritance of Eleanor, wife of Thomas de Wodestoke, Constable of England, and of Mary, her sister, daughters and heirs of the last Earl of Hereford and Constable of England, who are in the king's wardship, which manor is of the Constabulary of England, and that all the manors, lands, tenements and tenants of the Constabulary are quit of toll, pontage, and all other customs throughout the realm of England, and have been from time immemorial. However, there is now a process to distrain her tenants of Kimbolton for contributions to the bridge at Huntingdon, contrary to the franchise. She also holds in dower a third of the manor of Waresley of the honour of Huntingdon and of the inheritance of the aforesaid heirs, which honour is likewise quit of pontage, and her tenants there are also in process of being distrained for the same reason. She requests that the king and lords order the process to be stopped until the heirs are of age.
Nature of endorsement
This bill is to be sent to Chancery for justice to be done on it, and the process against the lady and her tenants, and everything belonging to it, is to be stopped until the octaves of St John the Baptist next, and in the meantime she is to sue in discharge of herself and her tenants.
