SC 8/18/876
Date

Description
Petitioners
John Corbet; Henry de la Pomeray, son of Henry de la Pomeray.
Name(s)
Corbet; Pomeray, John; Henry
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
John Corbet and Henry, son of Henry de la Pomeray, kinsmen and heirs of Roger de Vautort, state that Roger de Vautort gave the castle of Trematon, the villages of Saltash, Sutton and Tamerton, and the manors of Makerton and Calstock, with their appurtenances, to Richard Earl of Cornwall and King of Almain, and to the heirs of his body, with the reversion to Roger and his heirs in default of heirs of Richard's body, as Richard's charter clearly shows. Piers Corbert, John's brother, and Henry de la Pomeray, Henry's father, sued by petition in parliament in the time of the king's grandfather, and the petition was sent to Roger le Brabasoun and his companions, justices, where a writ was sent to the Treasurer, Chamberlains and Keeper of the Wardrobe, to inform the court of any evidence they had on behalf of the king. And thus Piers and Henry sued from parliament to parliament, but were sinfully delayed; and John and Henry have done the same in the time of the late king and of the present king, but have always been delayed; and they have sued to the Treasurer, Chamberlains and Keeper of the Wardrobe, who have said that they have informed the court of everything they have on the matter. They request that the justices before whom the business is pending be instructed to examine the record and process, and to proceed to a final judgment.
Nature of endorsement
The justices assigned to hold the king's pleas are to be ordered that, when they have examined the record and process, they are to proceed to a final determination of the matter, but that they are not to proceed to judgment without consulting the king.
