Transcript of a writ from Edward II to the sheriff of Lincolnshire, instructing him to order Gervase Avenel and Joan his wife to hand over various tenements in Carleton near Bassingham to the Abbot of Thornton, as he claims that they have unjustly deforced him of them. And if they do not do this, and if the abbot has established his claim before the sheriff, then the sheriff is to have Gervase and Joan appear before the king's justices at Westminster, one month after Easter, to explain their actions.
