Nature of request
Letter from Edward II to Henry le Scrop, stating that the abbot and convent of Thornton had petitioned him concerning various tenements in Carlton near Bassingham, which they had recovered before William de Bereford and his companions, justices, against Gervase Avenel and Joan his wife, and which John Walewayn, eacheator south of the Trent, had seized into the king's hand because the king had understood that Gervase and Joan were adherents of the Scottish rebels and enemies at the time. They were then given to Hugh le Despenser the younger, but reseized into the king's hand when he learned that Gervase and Joan were not adherents of the Scots. He is now asked for a remedy by the abbot and convent, and therefore asks Henry to send the record and process, with a transcript of the original writs and all other documents touching the matter, to the next parliament.
