Nature of request
Thomas de la Rivere and Joan his wife state that, because Robert Walwayn disseised them of a messuage in Scarborough that they had leased to him, they brought an assize of novel disseisin in the county of Yorkshire before John de Danecastre and his companions, which was adjudged in their favour because of the default of Robert. When he heard that it had gone against him, he surrendered the messuage into the king's hand, so that the king sent letters under the privy seal to the justices, not to continue in the assize: so that they have since not dared to do anything. The king has since given the messuage to the Friars of Carmel, in disinheritance of Thomas and Joan. They request a remedy.

Date given on the guard of the petition, with reference to SC 8/137/6823.CCR 1318-23, p.449 is dated at York, 19 May 1322: it rehearses the circumstances of this petition, and looks like a response to it: but it might possibly be a response to SC 8/137/6823.
