Description

Commons of Warwickshire.

King and council.
Nature of request
The commons of Warwickshire state that John de Stonore and Robert de Malberthorp were appointed, in the time of the king's father, to inquire into the assessors of the eighteenth and twentieth in Warwickshire, after they had rendered their account, and that they ordered a reassessment, as the original one had been too low. To avoid the hardship that would arise from that, the commons and the assessors made fine before the justices in 800 marks, of which only £80 remains unpaid. They request that they might be acquitted of the rest, as the fine was made under duress, and they are greatly impoverished by nobles coming there, staying and mounting expeditions, both in the king's father's time and in his own.
Nature of endorsement
They are to be pardoned the arrears, for the king's soul.
